The first time I tried to put my 2 1/2 month old baby girl in it, the latch scratched her stomach. Even if I was not totally comfortable doing it - no baby product should ever scratch a child especially when a child has to be moved in and out of it. After several times of her crying at the sight of it (maybe she associated this carrier with the pain of the scratches) I managed to get her in quietly. I went for a 10 min walk and came back with a lower back ache that still lingers after 1 week. My baby was not super comfortable in it either. Her arms are stuck in an awkward position and she seemed really stiff rather than relaxed. My daughter is in the 99th percentile for height and weight and I am a tall and big person myself so both those may factor in to how this fits us. (Our 6 week old weighs about 10.8 pounds, and I have yet to be comfortable slipping him into the other carriers on my own, plus the Ergo is quite hot with the infant insert.)First, the first unit I ordered came assembled incorrectly and was unusable -- a strap was sewn on twisted, making it impossible to buckle properly -- so quality control may be a little wanting. The carrier is pretty stiff, but easy to put on. The head support is nice, simple, and fool-proof as it's built in -- you simply tighten the head support straps at the top as needed. The flaw for us is that my little 10.8 pounder's arms don't sit comfortably where they need to be -- instead of riding back in the arm openings, his arms fall over the large, clunky, uncomfortable buckles on the side of the carrier.
